Nakuru County will be the first county to issue a warehouse operator license renewable every financial year.
The license is offered to warehouses to transact valid business.
This was unveiled during a courtesy call paid by officials of the council to the office of Agriculture CECM, Dr. Immaculate Maina.
This follows an official launch on the warehouse receipt system by H.E Governor Lee Kinyanjui, last year.
The system is in place to help farmers avoid selling their produce where’s there glut in the market and cut costs on transportation as farmers can sell their produce within the warehouses.
Nakuru County is also among pilot counties spearheading the warehouse receipt system at the National Cereals Produce Board warehouse.
Dr. Maina said that the County will ensure routine physical inspections are carried out to avoid malpractices and ensure the success of the system.
She added that there was need to build capacity of bodies oriented towards storage in addition to conducting awareness to farmers on cereal storage.
Currently the County is mandated to register warehouses as well as offer licenses after the council has offered a certificate of conformity.
Present was the Chief Officer, Mr. Kibet Maina, CDA, Mr. Fredrick Owino among other government officials.
