Fishing in Lake Naivasha.

The County Government of Nakuru has requested the National Government for security agencies to help curb the rampant cases of illegal fishing in Lake Naivasha.
Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Linah Chebii, affirmed the Government’s support in fighting illegal fishing through regulation of the sub sector.
The CAS was speaking during the restocking of 100,000 fingerlings at Lake Naivasha, yesterday.
The exercise is aimed at replenishing fish stocks and enhancing fish production from our inland water bodies.
Agriculture CECM, Dr. Immaculate Maina, said that Governor Lee Kinyanjui led administration has been able to restock 29 water bodies in the county as well as distribute dam liners to farmers.
She noted that in partnership with the National Government and other stakeholders, the County is working to ensure the sector is properly managed for sustainability.
This is through training of the Beach Management Unit (BMU) members to enhance governance structures.
Later on, illegal fishnets worth Ksh. 8 million were destroyed after a clean up exercise at the lake.
The County Government will keep monitoring, conducting surveillance and offering civic education on the effects of overfishing to the Lake.
